Kuchar and English Win Franklin Templeton Shootout

Matt Kuchar and Harris English tied a tournament record with a -34 score at the Greg Norman-hosted Franklin Templeton Shootout at Tiburon Golf Course in Naples, Florida.  Their seven shot win also set a record for largest margin of victory and tied Fred Couples and Raymond Floyd’s score from back when the event was played at Sherwood Country Club in Los Angeles.

Kuchar and English won $385,000 each for the three days of golf. Second place, at -27 under, went to Freddie Jacobson and Retief Goosen, with third going to Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.

One of the funnier moments in the event happened Sunday when reigning PGA Champion Jason Dufner was lining up his birdie putt on the par-4 9th hole. I think we’ve all had this happen to us at least once in our golfing lives…and you can watch it here.  By the way, great baseball swing by Dufner after the hole is finished.

Franklin Templeton Shootout 2013

Anyone who knows us here at Teed Off Tee Times knows we have a link to Greg Norman. Greg designed El Camaleon Golf Club, site of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and a place we called home for almost four years. This week, another Greg Norman-designed golf course, Tiburon, plays host to the now-renamed Franklin Templeton Shootout.  Leading after day one are the defending champions Sean O’Hair and Kenny Perry and Matt Kuchar and new OHL Classic at Mayakoba champ Harris English.  Both teams shot an 8-under 64 in the modified alternate shot format. Canada’s Mike Weir nearly made a Hole-in-one on the par-3 12th, but his tee shot stopped inches from the cup. Tomorrow’s format is better-ball (play your own ball) and Sunday finished up with a scramble format.  Teed Off Tee Times is pretty sure the event will come down to the final hole on Sunday.
