TPC CANCUN at Cancun Country Club OPENS the Nick Price-designed South Course
Cancun, Quintana Roo (June 2012) The Tournament Player’s Club Cancun (TPC Cancun) at Cancun Country Club recently opened the Nick Price-designed South course for play. Tee’d Off Tee Times is booking golf at this course.
The TPC, with corporate offices located at the flagship TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, is an affiliate of the PGA tour and consists of 33 private and resort golf courses in the US, and now Mexico. TPC Cancun represents the first step in a broad effort to develop golf in Latin America, and is the only TPC course outside the United States. Due to the already world-class amenities present in the Mexican Caribbean, which incorporates Cancun and the Riviera Maya, it was chosen as the perfect market to begin this campaign.
The TPC vision is to create golf course experiences for members and guests that reflect the customer service and amenities experienced by PGA Tour professionals each week on the Tour.
The South course is situated within over 1116 acres of diverse Cancun Country Club property. The land offers extensive wildlife, beautiful native greenery, and an abundance of natural water. Mr. Price incorporated these naturally occurring features into his design strategy. The course boasts wall-to-wall Platinum Paspalum, the Cadillac of grass in the region, as well as 79 bunkers and 5 lakes. Mr. Price succeeded in creating a unique golf experience in the Mexican Caribbean and a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Hole #5 is a great example and is the early front-runner for “signature hole”: 
An uphill tee shot protected by a deep fairway bunker leads to an extremely demanding approach. A beautiful lake makes it difficult to focus on the task at hand. The center bunker is 40 yards short of the green but creates an effective illusion for the approach. Pay close attention to pin position here, as up to 3 clubs may separate a front location from one in the back. Buena suerte!
The golf course will be complemented by world-class service and amenities. Designed by renowned Mexico City architect Jacobo Micha, the 137,000 square foot clubhouse [under construction] will be a living, breathing work of art—pools, tennis center, 3 restaurants, boutique golf shop, full spa, beautifully appointed locker rooms, and a conference center. Currently, the temporary clubhouse and golf shop offer complete services in a cool, inviting atmosphere.
