TPC Cancun Review By Our Client

We at Tee’d Off Tee Times appreciate your opinion–FYI From Dennis Gabrian. TPC BallsThe course is spectacular.  Needs time to mature.  Every lie is a tight lie.  If properly nurtured, the fairways and rough should thicken to full growth by next year.  The course challenges with its length, bunkers, and water hazards.  The fairways are generous, and there is ample rough.  It is a true miss to hit sideways into the woods/jungle.  The water is not so merciful.  Each hole is separately cut through the woods, and it is rare to see a hole other than the one you are playing.  The course is freaky long.  TPCI did not look at the length from the red tees, but the other tees ranged from 6500+ to 7400+.  I played gold at 7100.  It plays every bit as long as represented.  Short cuts are few, and require challenges to water and very intimidating bunkers.  The bunkering is visually intimidating, and strategically located to penalize the unlucky gambler.  Fortunately, because of the immature turf conditions, there is additional release that increases shot distance and helps with the overall length of the course.  However, my recollection is that most greens are elevated or have false fronts, and one must fly the ball to the putting surface.   Good sand consistency.  Need more rakes.  Greens are in good shape and roll true.  The course was empty.  Except for a very slow foursome that I came upon after 16 holes ( who let me play through), I saw no one else on the course. I can’t wait to play there next year.  Hopefully, construction of the permanent clubhouse will be completed, and the amenities offered will be more than just the golf course and practice areas.   This is not a course to book unless you want to play serious golf.  It clearly was not designed nor built as a resort course.  No ocean views.  Just golf.  Challenging golf.  However, I must say that an average golfer might enjoy this course if he can play within his means and just try to move the ball forward.  This is not target golf.   I actually score better at TPC than at Riviera – less lost balls and hazard penalties.   Good luck with your business ventures, and look forward to connecting next year.
