Have you ever wondered what the professional golfers are like off the field? We certainly do! The www.pgatour.com is doing a weekly question and answer spotlight on some PGA tour players to give us the inside scoop on what they are really like according to their wives! This week happens to be the 2009 Mayakoba Golf Classic champion, Mark Wilson. Let us tell you, his wife Amy is quite entertaining. We hope you enjoy the read.
18 Things about Mark Wilson By: Amy Wilson
1. Mark has a serious sweet tooth but can stop himself after one bite. I know, the self control is amazing. He prefers sugar over chocolate. This is good for me as I prefer the chocolate. We get along well at Halloween.
2. He was born on Halloween.
3. Many people grew up Michael Jackson fans, but how many boys learned how to sew so that they could make their own sequined white glove? Thanks to his mom, Mark did!
4. One of his favorite pastimes is organizing his golf stuff. He organizes everything down to his golf tees. The Container Store would be so proud.
5. His second favorite pastime is giggling with his two boys. Mark is a very hands-on father. I would not be able to travel 30 weeks a year with two small children without him as my partner.
6. His two favorite karaoke songs are “American Pie” by Don McLean and “Mercedes Benz” by Janis Joplin. He thinks he sounds just like them … I beg to differ.
7. He has driven 130 mph on the Texas Motor Speedway without throwing up.
8. Mark has a strong faith and a loving heart. His favorite quote is: “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words” by St Francis of Assisi.
9. Mark graduated with a 3.7 GPA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He majored in Math and might have pursued a career as an actuary if he did not have the dream to be a professional golfer.
10. Mark can be impatient; he couldn’t even wait for me to finish typing this list. He is standing next to me ironing (see No. 11) and can’t stop making guesses as to what I am sharing.
11. Mark does all the ironing in the house. He will even iron his non-wrinkle golf shirts.
12. He likes to look at license plate numbers and find their square root. I think this started during his days on the mini-tours and all those long hours driving from tournament to tournament.
13. As a child, he and his friends set up a WWF ring in his basement, and they would re-enact matches there. They made their own “breakaway” costumes (using Velcro) and a title belt. Who knows, the footage may end up on YouTube one day.
14. I can’t get him to give away his childhood Alf figure.
15. He is a big fan of stand-up comedy. We go see live comedians whenever we can. On long car rides, we often listen to comedy CDs.
16. He is a sucker for a cute furry kitten.
17. He loves playing Scrabble; he does not like losing at Scrabble.
18. The most romantic gift he has given to me was a list of all the “reasons why I make him a better man.”
